It's a dark day for New York's hottest clubs. Bill Hader will be leaving Saturday Night Live at the end of this season.
Hader, an eight-year veteran of NBC's sketch comedy show, was known for numerous characters on SNL, including James Carville, Al Pacino, Vincent Price and Julian Assange, as well as his generic, self-satisfied game show host. In recent years, of course, Hader was best known for his recurring role as Weekend Update's city correspondent Stefon.
"It was a hard decision, but it has to happen at some point," Hader said in an interview. "It got to a point where I said, 'Maybe it's just time to go.'"
According to The New York Times, Hader's departure be the start of a larger exodus on SNL. Seth Meyers is already set to leave the show next year to replace Jimmy Follon as Late Night host. Likewise, Fred Armisen and Jason Sudeikis are rumored to be leaving along with Hader.
Said EP Lorne Michaels of Armisen and Sudeikis' SNL status, "I don't think so. I think they're making their decisions and we'll know soon enough."
