No third-party game signifies the success – or lack thereof – of a handheld in Japan than Monster Hunter. The series has sold millions upon millions of copies on PlayStation Portable in Japan alone and was a major reason why PSP was a huge sales success. But when it was revealed that Monster Hunter would migrate to 3DS, it was expected to be a massive blow to PlayStation Vita in particular, as it continues to struggle to gain any sort of significant traction worldwide.
Well, Vita gamers, don’t hold your breath for a Monster Hunter game on Sony’s new handheld any time soon. At the Ask Capcom forum (as discovered by NeoGAF), Capcom’s Associate Online/Community Specialist Yuri L. Araujo said that the company has “no plans for a PSVita Monster Hunter at the moment.”
This news flies in the face of rumors that started circulating as early as 2012 indicating that Monster Hunter may come to Vita. Indeed, earlier this year, news emerged from Japan that Monster Hunter 4 in particular would be coming to Vita, but it appears the rumor isn’t true after all.
Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate recently came to Wii U and 3DS, and we really liked it. Monster Hunter 4 is set to come exclusively to Nintendo 3DS this summer.
