Studios have spent years trying to bring stage musical Guys and Dolls back to the big screen, with little luck. But thanks to a deal that closed this week, it looks like 20th Century Fox will soon be bringing the tale of Sky Masterson and Nathan Detroit to a cinema near you.
According to Deadline, the studio has secured the musical’s rights, and want Channing Tatum and Joseph Gordon-Levitt to play the roles originally filled by Frank Sinatra and Marlon Brando.
Both actors have danced onscreen previously, with Tatum strutting his stuff in Magic Mike and Gordon-Levitt doing the same in (500) Days of Summer. The pair also showcased their moves at this year’s Oscar ceremony.
As for Guys and Dolls, it tells the tale of a pair of gamblers who take a beautiful missionary for a ride, and features show-stopping tunes like Sit Down, you’re Rocking the Boat and Luck be a Lady.
The studio will apparently start the development process very soon, so watch this space. Also head here for more stage musicals ripe for movie adaptation, and check out the video below to see JGL laying down some moves in a She & Him video...
