The Wire's Larry Gillard is joining the cast of The Walking Dead as a character from the comic, THR reports.
The actor is set to play Bob Stookey, who, in the comics is a former Army medic/resident of Woodbury who saves the Governor's life after Michonne tortures him. We can only imagine that his relationship with the Governor will take a different path in the show, as they have moved away from that particular storyline. In fact, the series has been known to entirely change the nature of a character's connection to the group and story, as was done with the introduction of Tyreese. It's possible that Stookey, who is also described as an alcoholic loner who is "haunted by his past," was simply one of the Woodbury residents on that bus at the close of the Season 3 finale.
As mentioned, Gillard worked with Chad Coleman (Tyreese) on HBO's The Wire where he played D'Angelo Barksdale. He joins the cast as a series regular, Coleman, Sonequa Martin-Green (Sasha) and Emily Kinney (Beth, meanwhile, were just recently promoted to series regulars and we know that David Morrissey is set to return as The Governor.
