While Star Wars: The Clone Wars is over (although we still have a few more story arcs yet to be released, in some format), that show's main creative force, supervising director Dave Filoni, has confirmed he's involved in developing the next Star Wars animated series.
As yet, there are no concrete details on what this new animated series is, just speculation. But today, Filoni put an image on his Facebook page that will add to that speculation.
Along with art he drew, Filoni wrote, "It’s hard to believe that I have worked at Lucasfilm almost eight years, and this is the first time I have ever gotten to draw a TIE fighter."
I think it's safe to assume, especially given the specific phrasing, that means Filoni is referring to drawing a TIE Fighter in an official capacity for Lucasfilm, as part of his actual job, since he obviously could have drawn one on his own at any point in those eight years. So is this for the new animated series? It sure seems likely. If so, the mere existence of TIE Fighters at the least would mean this new animated series takes place after Episode III and not in an earlier time period. Many (myself included) are guessing the series will probably take place after Episode VI, bridging the gap between the original trilogy and the upcoming new feature films and this drawing at least keeps that a strong possibility.
What do you think? Is this a glimpse of what's to come for Star Wars in animation? And if you missed it last week, take a look at the recently released new clip from one of the final Clone Wars arcs.
