Report Says Michael Scott is in Office Finale -- But Producer Still Denies It

To Michael or not to Michael? It's a burning question that Office fans have been buzzing about for months now. But just how likely is it that Steve Carell's Michael Scott will appear in The Office's upcoming series finale?

Earlier today, TVLine reported that Carell will in fact show up in the long-running comedy's final episode.

To its credit, TVLine's scoops are generally reliable, however, showrunner Greg Daniels and Carell's reps maintain that The Office finale will remain Scott-free, as it were.

IGN's own Roth Cornet recently spoke with Daniels, and he said that he felt that there is simply "a lot of wishful thinking" happening, which has likely been inspired by the fact that Carell made a surprise appearance at their big event in Scranton this weekend.

"What's ironic," Daniels added, "is that he [Steve Carell] didn't want to do it [make a cameo appearance] because he didn't want to overshadow the finale with discussions of Michael's return, since the finale is not about that, it's about the endings for all of the other characters. And now that's what everybody wants to talk about."

For what it's worth, Craig Robinson also denied a Michael Scott cameo, as per IGN's interview with him last week.

One thing's for sure -- if Carell is making an appearance in The Office series finale, the cast and crew have done a great job at playing it close to the vest.
